our mission
Antibiotic resistant bacteria cause of more than 25,000 premature deaths in Europe every year.
So far, a global consumption of antibiotics increased by 40% in the last decade has been doing nothing but aggravating the problem. Antibiotics are becoming less effective and the risk for the near future is to become dangerously exposed to infectious diseases.
In this sense, breath analysis is receiving ever increasing attention as it provides a non-invasive clinical test that can be used for early disease detection. In the future, rapid breath diagnostics should be able to allow doctors prescribing the most appropriate available medicine, so to protect our most valuable drugs from over-consumption.
The BreathSpec® project aims to develop a rapid, non-invasive device that can diagnose bacterial or viral infections through ultra-high sensitivity breath analysis.
